Garrett has been asking me to call Grandma Gail and make sure she tells Drew and Eryka about how he did in the middle school 10K run. So I thought I would just cut in, and post about it on the family blog.
Garrett took third place in the whole school. He finished in second place in the sixth grade. He said it was back and forth most of the race with the other boy who took first. He also said that if he had known that only the first place winners got a trophy, he would have run harder. Garrett got a medal.
He ran the 5.8 mile race in 40 minutes and 45 seconds. He ran it in his slip-on school shoes that are a little too big for him. He did an awesome job.
And I missed it. It was my fault he had the wrong shoes. He has good running shoes, but he accidentally left them home. When he called me to bring them, no one answered. The night before, I told him I would call to find out where and when the race was. I completely forgot. I took the girls to the park. When Garrett walked in the door earlier than school gets out, I asked why he was home. He told me Hiatts brought him home, and then I realized my mistake.
I love Garrett. I have enjoyed watching him run Cross Country this year. I hope he will keep it up, in spite of his slacker mom.

CONGRATULATIONS GARRETT!!! And thanks for cutting in, Nan - that's what this place is for :)
Way to go, Garrett! We're proud of you!
Awesome! Congratulations Garrett! I'm looking for someone to run the Snow Canyon 1/2 mile run next November. Interested? Keep it up.
I meant to say 1/2 marathon. That's about 13 miles longer than a 1/2 mile run.
That is great Garrett! I can't believe how grown-up he is.
I am so proud of you Garrett! Keep it up.
