The latest on building the Bartons' MASSIVE house

At least, Massive seems to be the word everyone else uses when I tell them the house being built on 5th South is ours. Check out the brick on our massive house. They just started this week. Who knew that choosing a brick color could be so complicated. Let me tell you, it is not easy. There are seriously dozens of choices, and that was just from the two companies our bricklayer referred us to. So, you see this little sample in the flyer, and somehow you have to picture what it will look like on the house. Then, you have to choose from several possible grout colors. Once you commit, you had better be happy with it, because brick is about as permanent as you can get.
Once the brick is done, we will have to figure out what color stucco we want. Again, with very little to go on. I have to see these things. I am very visual. It is overwhelming to try to decide without knowing what the finished product will look like.
Supposedly, my brick will be a little darker after it is powerwashed, and my mortar will look a little lighter once it cures. I am glad I didn't go with the chocolate grout. That just would have been too dark, I think. (Nothing against your house, Kd).
And every day, Britt is calling and saying that I need to decide something right now. How do I know where I want my cable and computer outlets. I have no idea. Placement of light switches, what? Wherever the expert who is installing them thinks. And I have no clue where I want to put the oven or the fridge in my basement kitchenette. We are not even finishing that yet. But the plumber and the electrician have to know NOW. A regular gas meter is about $65; for our MASSIVE house $1300. Ouch. Lots of stuff like that. Right now we are paying more for water at that property than we are in the trailer here. The water is not even turned on there. It must be a flat fee, and of course they charge more for county than city.
But you know what, I am going to have an awesome view from just outside my bedroom. And my master bath is going to be fabulous! Hey, if any of you know someone that wants land in Blanding, we have lots for sale still. You know, we have got to pay for this house somehow. I don't really want to live in lots of unfinished stuff. I am not kidding.
Well, Cole thinks he can't get his homework done without help. I can't blog anymore. Love you all.

I have a hard enough time keeping up with the housework in my two bedroom apartment, I can't imagine a house that big!

It looks like for years to come Nan can host family reunions at her house.

I know the pictures are still in the early process, but it looks like you made the right choice on colors. It's going to be beautiful!
