Today was Gavin's first well baby check and second PKU. Here are his stats:
*Height: 21.75 inches 85%
*Weight: 8lbs 12 oz (she put in the wrong number so it says 49.21% but it is probably a little bit higher)
* Head: 14 inches 20.76%

Life with a new baby is quite boring, we eat, sleep and poop pretty much all day long. Sometimes I wish Tim could nurse the baby so I wouldn't feel like such a milk cow all the time. Along with that being sleep deprived doesn't help the emotions and all the information out there on the Internet, in books and magazines can drive a girl crazy about taking care of a baby. So I have taken my friend's advice and quit reading the baby books, magazines, Internet articles, and etc and I am just going to rely on the doctor, Tim's nursing experience, & those who have been there done that for my advice and sanity. I have also come to realize how hard breastfeeding really is. Luckily, Gavin is pretty good about latching on correctly now that I have gotten more help and advice from the La Leche League. I also got Newman's ointment from the doctor that is supposed to really help cracked and traumatized nipples, which will make things even better. It is really amazing how painful breastfeeding can be if not done correctly and I totally understand now how someone could quit due to the pain.

Besides babies, we haven't done too much. My mom was here for two weeks which helped tremendously and I didn't want her to leave. She really spoiled us by cooking every meal and cleaning and helping with Gavin. If I could I would totally hire a nanny or at least a maid and cook. But thank goodness Gail will be coming in a week or so because next week Tim goes back to work and it will be different being alone with the boy. While my mom was here I took her to get a pedicure which was really needed for both our feet. My sister was also here recovering from ankle surgery. With some planning Tim and I were able to attend a dinner at Chef's Table held by a Dr. he works with. We had a good time eating some really fine food and listening to a lecture on what happens in the cath lab. We made it home just in time to feed Gavin before he got really upset.

Casey chilling w/ Gavin on the recliner with her huge pink cast.

This is how he loves to sleep on your chest with his little bum in the air. I am pretty sure that is how he was in the womb.

Thinking really hard. We swaddle him and somehow he always gets his arms out.

Trying to catch up on sleep.
They told us at the hospital that in the first year with a baby you lose about 700 hours of sleep. YIKES!!!

I am sorry breastfeeding has been difficult. It does get easier with time. Also, you have to know, it is not always just about getting baby to "latch on correctly", because no matter how correctly they latch on the first few times, it seriously hurts! Your body has to toughen up, and you can't really do anything to prepare for that. It always surprised me when my babies first latched on how much it hurt. I thought I was an expert now. But it is just takes time for that part of your body to get used to the baby's suction. Hopefully the creme will help. Be careful that you nurse both sides regularly. I got mastitis a couple times, and that is absolutely no fun! Wish you luck.

Trust me, there are as many glory stories as there are horror stories, and you'll eventually bask in the glory. Of course, your lives will never be the same, and in spite of the major exhaustion at this stage, you will soon be having mostly marvelous memories. Gavin is as good as they come, and I am looking forward to spending some more time with him, and his perfectly placid parents!
