Bloggin' in Blanding

Hello, Glovers out there!

I know--it's about time we got with the program. The problem is, I tend to be an "all or nothing" kind of gal. So unless I'm posting a million pictures and writing several paragraphs a day, I won't do it. Well, I'm doing it. And, as you can see, no pictures. And maybe once in a blue moon I'll add something to this, but it's certainly not going to happen daily. Hey--at least it's something.

So for now I'll write a quick paragraph for each of us Blandingites.

Big Worthy has lost 20 pounds since January 1st, so I'm really proud of him. He's also just 3 classes away from a master's degree. YEAH!!!!! He'll be finished in June and then we will have our Dad back. Actually, he's been pretty good at keeping his life in balance even with all of the pressures and deadlines. He's been playing hoops with some friends in the early mornings, which has been fun and rewarding. He can't wait for the sun to melt the snow on the golf course.

I (Kim) am really enjoying my new job, which finds me all over San Juan County in people's homes and hogans. My office is sometimes in my car, so I have now listened to nearly the entire Harry Potter series on tape. I work with children birth to three and their families. It's rewarding, and best of all I'm not spending all of my free time at work. My family sees me much more these days. Woo-hoo.

Morgan is so much fun right now. She has morphed into a young lady and she is at that stage where everything is an adventure. She's enjoying the young women program, volleyball, and e-mail. Holy cow, she checks her e-mail (on my computer) every half hour on the hour. City volleyball has just started, and she made it on one of the best teams. She is fun to watch--I highly recommend it if you ever get a chance! She won't tell me who her crush is, although I know she has one. So if any of you ever find out, please clue me in.

Kate is enjoying first grade, and if I had one wish it would be that Mrs. Elaine Johnson would teach 2nd grade next year. She has really gone out of her way to make Kate feel special. As you all know, Kate was diagnosed with autism in November. This didn't come as much of a surprise to us, because we had been reading up on it for a long time and we have known her for 7 1/2 years. But it has still been rough as we've been spending much of our time researching and planning and trying to help our daughter. She is beautiful and smart, and can usually be found playing x-box, climbing trees, or pretending to be a "cheetah tiger." We love her intensely.

Little Worthy is the class and family clown. And this boy has been blessed with the gift of gab. He can talk about anything--even when it doesn't make any sense. And it often doesn't make any sense. Every once in awhile his Dad and I make eye contact in the middle of one of his sermons and it's all we can do to not break up laughing. Our little man is a big fan of Nemo and Spiderman, and he loves baths and the x-box. He is attending preschool right now, and he loves the fact that he gets to ride the bus. Next up--Kindergarten! Those ladies have no idea what is coming--three Glovers (Rachel, Thomas, and little Worthy) are on their way. Whoa. Worthy knows most of his letters and their sounds, and is playing with word sounds like crazy. He's ready to take off reading. What fun.

We love you all!

Kim

It is so good to hear from you Kim! Tell Worthy congratulations on the weight loss (and have him share his secret with my husband). I am glad you are enjoying your job and your family. We miss you and can't wait to have you visit again! Love to your whole family.

Sounds like things are going pretty well in Blanding. I must echo my congratulations for Worthy's weight loss. I've done about the same since I started work in September - only problem is, I didn't have the weight to lose. It's just the bizaare meal schedule in Spain and long work hours that have prevented me from maintaining a healthy eating pattern.

Isaac is really loving school too. But he's no where near being ready to read - he's got enough challenges just trying to learn the language. He loves it regardless, and sometimes we hear him making up his own Spanish.
