A while ago Eva made the profound comment that we are so lucky to live in Blanding. She pointed out how great it was that she knew all the people that live in the houses near us. She said she enjoyed being able to eat at Grandma Gails each week, and playing with her (Blanding) cousins any time she wanted to. I really share her feelings. I value the relationships that my children are able to have with their grandparents and cousins. I am glad that Eva is able to recognize some of the blessings of Blanding. There are many other things that make Blanding a special place to live. The other day I was at the grocery store. I finished unloading my groceries into my van from the shopping cart at the same time as the woman parked next to me. She offered to take my cart back for me since she was on her way anyway. Such a simple act, but such a blessing! I am grateful for friendships we share with people from Blanding, I live all the way across town from this woman, and don't ever really interact with her, but we are friends for no other reason, than because we live in Blanding.
Clay is frequently called at home to go open the building supply store so that someone can complete a home-improvement project. It drives me crazy most of the time, but I know that those same people would be willing to help us out if the time ever came.
I am glad that Clay can take the kids hiking any time, and they are able to have grand adventures only minutes away from our home.
I love going to the park and knowing the other mothers and children.
I like being able to live in a community where I feel like I am making a difference.
There have been times when Clay and I have really questioned if Blanding was the right place for us and our children. We know it is the place we are supposed to be.

Bless YOU for finding the great blessings in small things! It's a blessing to me that some of my best friends (whom I'm also related to!) can live in Blanding so close to me!
One of my friends in high school was once complaining about how everyone in Blanding gossips about each other, and her dad said to her, "That might be true, but if you ever needed help, you could call ANYONE in town and they would drop everything to do whatever they could for you." That always stuck with me, because it is true. (That wise father was Kay Shumway and my friend was Robyn.) There are some advantages to living in small towns.
Good to hear that Blanding is treating you good. We are excited for you to come and stay with us this week. See you soon.
I have friends who think we've gone completely insane to stay in Blanding. They don't know what they are missing. Yes, I complain when I have to drive a thousand miles for decent produce, but I love raising my kids here.
