(Ordinary) Life

I was frustrated because I couldn't think of anything extraordinary to blog about and...da ta ta da...I had remembered it's our turn to post (I know, shocking). "What is there to report?" I kept saying to myself. I guess this was my excuse for procrastinating. So I started thinking about our family and our very ordinary existence. Well, I came to the conclusion that I LOVE our ordinary existence. I love my (sometimes) ordinary husband and my ordinary dog. I love the ordinary time I get to spend with my family. I love my ordinary kids, who are really very extraordinary. So, here's my ordinary update on our (wonderfully) ordinary family:

First, it was my birthday last week. To celebrate, my body gave me some ordinary new gray hairs and a brand new wrinkle. My husband gave me a trip to Salt Lake. He was traveling for business, so I tagged along. Here's a really good example of appreciating ordinary: Worthy was sure that he was boring me to death, because he was working most of the day on Tuesday and Wednesday. But I loved just being in the car with him and hanging out with him on the way there and back. He took me for lettuce wraps at P.F. Chang's and to Cafe Rio, and I spent time wandering around the Gateway, especially Barnes and Noble. I had an ordinary, fabulous time.

Before I tell you about Morgan's ordinary week, I want to brag about how extraordinary she is. It is a wonderful thing, as a mom, to be able to relax in Salt Lake City knowing that my young children are safe, fed, and happy. So the house was a disaster when I returned. Big deal. I'm still SO grateful to Morgan for her service. After we got home, Morgan went to see the movie she's been complaining about since the actors were cast. She went to the showing at 3:00 in the morning on Friday! Crazy girl. She said, "They somehow managed to make Edward hot". She's been once again since the first time, and she and I are planning on going with my Mom next week.

Ordinarily, this picture wouldn't be a big deal. But for our Kate, this picture is a miracle! Most of her school photos (and professional photos, before we finally got smart and stopped torturing her), are tear-streaked. She HATES getting her pictures taken. So when I saw this picture, I was so proud of how brave she was. Not to mention beautiful. On picture day she told me, "There was a balloon in the gym, mom, and I was scared. But I smiled anyway." Just an ordinary detail that makes me so happy!

And Little Worthy. What a good lookin' little man. Ordinary things about Worthy make me smile: the way he always has to have something in his hand or pocket (marbles, rocks, magnets,...), the way he snuggles into me for a cuddle on the couch, his smile, listening to him read.

So, yes, my life is ordinary. Wonderfully ordinary.

I know that picture thing is huge! sometimes seemingly ordinary accomplishments are definitely more than ordinary. Just as your ordinary life, as you see it, is really so much more. What a blessing to have such a wonderfully ordinary life!
