You might know some people who have had their picture taken with David Letterman, but do you know anyone who has had their picture taken by David Letterman? Now you do.
For Eryka's 30th birthday, we went snowboarding at a little family-friendly hill about one hour away. When we pulled into the parking lot, we were held up by some crotchety old guy who seemed to be having trouble pulling his Toyota Four-Runner into the space next to ours. We both thought "What is this guy's deal!?" and finally pulled in after he got himself situated.
We got out of the car and started getting our gear on, and Eryka thought we needed a picture together. As she pulled me in close, and stretched out her left arm to snap our photo, I was glancing over at the family getting out of the other car and doing a double-take. (See the picture below.)

That "crotchety old guy" looked awfully familiar. And then when he said in his best Top Ten voice, "Want me to take that for you?", there was no more doubt. As he released the shutter twice to take our picture, I couldn't help but grin at the irony of having my picture taken by a celebrity. Of course, Eryka hadn't even realized who it was until after he handed the camera back and I said (loudly, for Mr. Letterman's benefit), "Didn't Leeann used to work for him?" (Our good friend in the ward, Leeann Pope, was his personal assistant for a number of years.) Mr. Letterman did a small double-take of his own, but continued about his business while Eryka shushed me. Apparently, he is an intensely private man and hates to be recognized in public (Eryka has discussed this at length with Leeann). So, we left him to enjoy a relaxing day with his family and the only evidence we have of our encounter with fame is the picture he took for us. He's a half-decent photographer.

We believe you! You even have pictures to prove it -- sort of!
I think it is great that you guys continue to have wonderful experiences in New York. Even though we wish you were all closer it is evident that is where you should be.
That is a cool story. Happy birthday Eryka!
I know it is a little late. I meant to send her an email card, but I don't think I followed through, sorry. Happy birthday, Eryka. I hope your husband didn't embarrass Dave too much.
Either he is a very talented photographer or you two are very photogenic. Or both!
That's sooo cool. I wish stuff like that could happen here in Montana but unfortunatly for us we don't get much for anything really good here. Well I love you guys!
